It has become increasingly popular in Greece to purchase prayer ropes made by people outside of Athos, even people outside the Orthodox Church. A significant number of prayer ropes are produced by the Chinese and sold all over Greece. They are made of inferior materials, by people who have no vested interest in the spiritual aspect of the prayer rope, something sacred to the Orthodox tradition.
Prayer Ropes from Dormition Skete are hand made by zealot monastics residing on the Holy Mountain, using the finest quality materials. They are made with prayer, and are the primary means of sustenance for these monks. Although the fathers could purchase and resell prayer ropes from these same foreign sources, they have deemed it more conducive to their spiritual life and more beneficial for the Church to continue producing them, even if at a slightly higher cost.
Our prayer ropes are all made from nylon by Zealot-monks from the Skete of Katounakia on the Holy Mountain Athos. Unlike some other prayer ropes, each knot is equal in size to all the other knots and the spacing in between the knots is equal as well. Despite the fact that they are of the highest quality, we are charging purchasers perhaps the lowest price anywhere for 40-knot prayer ropes, and they are all made by monastic Zealots for Orthodoxy from the Garden of the Virgin Mary, Athos.
Our 40-knot prayer ropes are approximately 4 inches in length, and can be stretched to fit around a man's wrist.
